A century after Ducati’s journey began, the Italian marque celebrated its 100th birthday on 4 July 2026 by pulling the covers off the Desmo450 SM Prototype at World Ducati Week in Misano. Marking Ducati’s first-ever Supermotard racer, the competition only machine features a 449.6cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder Desmodromic engine, dedicated chassis, Showa suspension, Brembo-Galfer braking package, 17-inch Takasago Excel wheels on racing slicks with full specifications arriving this September 2026.

Stepping into the Supermotard arena for the first time, Ducati engineered the Desmo450 SM Prototype specifically for asphalt racing rather than adapting its motocross sibling. The model is preview on 4 July 2026 at World Ducati Week in Misano, the race-only machine is built on the Desmo450 MX platform.
But the model still features a dedicated chassis, revised bodywork, 17-inch Takasago Excel wheels, and lightweight construction with Ducati targeting class leading agility and the lightest package in the segment.

The Ducati Desmo450 SM Prototype is powered by a 449.6cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder DOHC engine featuring Ducati’s signature Desmodromic valve system. The Supermotard version expected to produce around 63.5hp at 9,400rpm and 53.5Nm at 7,500rpm while benefiting from revised gearing, dedicated engine tuning, and a rev limit of upto 11,900rpm for track-focused performance.
Since it is a competition-only motorcycle, the Desmo450 SM does not have an official mileage figure or road homologation. Instead, it focuses on outright performance with a lightweight 26.8kg engine, race-spec electronics, dedicated traction control, and an ultra-light chassis, all design to deliver stronger acceleration, quicker corner exits, and improved control on tarmac circuits.
Chassis, Suspension, & Brake
The biggest engineering updates focus on race-ready hardware with the Desmo450 SM Prototype receiving fully adjustable long-travel Showa suspension, a Brembo front brake paired with a Galfer wave rotor, and 17-inch spoked Takasago Excel wheels wrapped in racing slick tyres as standard.
Ducati also confirms dedicated traction control and Supermotard-specific chassis tuning, while final dimensions, weight, and complete technical specifications is scheduled to be reveal in September 2026.
Ducati Desmo450 SM Launch Date & Availability
The Ducati Desmo450 SM Prototype was first revealed globally on 4 July 2026, during World Ducati Week at the Misano World Circuit in Italy where it also appear alongside development rider Marc Reiner Schmidt. Ducati confirm the full technical debut for September 2026 with European deliveries expected from October 2026. The company is yet to announce booking dates or availability for other global markets.

Ducati has not announced the official price of the Desmo450 SM Prototype till now. But based on its premium positioning and the Desmo450 MX, the race-ready Supermotard is expected to be priced above rivals such as the KTM 450 SMR, BMW F 450 GS, and Husqvarna FS 450.
