JSW Motors begins testing Chery Jaecoo J5 petrol & strong-hybrid in India, revealing a 224 hp hybrid, premium features, 1,000 km driving range, & expected November 2026 launch.
JSW Motors’ upcoming Jaecoo J5 spotted testing in petrol and strong-hybrid form giving a clear hint that the brand won’t rely only on EVs for its India debut. With fresh spy shots revealing an ICE grille, premium cabin, and multiple powertrain plans, the Creta rival is shaping like one of the most important SUVs in JSW’s Upcoming Lineup.
Petrol Hybrid Models Caught Testing
By the fresh spy shots it is confirm that the JSW Motors is testing Jaecoo J5 in petrol and strong-hybrid form for the Indian market. Earlier, only the EV version spotted which is also a first clear indication that multiple powertrain options are under evaluation. Globally, the Jaecoo J5 available with 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces upto 156 hp and 275 Nm while the strong hybrid version develops 224 hp and 295 Nm.
The hybrid version claims fuel efficiency of around 18.9 kmpl and offers a driving range of nearly 1,000 km. Since JSW Motors focusing on new-energy vehicles for India, this strong-hybrid variant expected to play a key role in the company’s launch strategy.
And the biggest visual change is the traditional front grille with vertical slats, replacing the closed-off grille seen on the electric model. A fuel filler cap on the rear fender further confirms that this is the ICE-based version.
Through spied images it is also clear that the SUV continues to feature its boxy design, upright stance, squared wheel arches, sleek LED lighting, and premium styling. And it also look very similar of size that means, the Jaecoo J5 is 4380 mm long with 2620 mm wheelbase, it fits squarely into India’s mid-size SUV segment.
Some experts also claims that the spy images also reveal an all-black cabin with a large vertically mounted touchscreen. Based on the international model, the India-spec SUV is likely to offer a panoramic sunroof, digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, dual-zone climate control, connected car features, and a Level 2 ADAS suite.
India Launch, Price, & Rivals Update
Well, the JSW Chery Jaecoo J5 petrol & strong hybrid first spotted testing in Maharashtra on 14 July 2026. The ICE model’s first appearance after the EV version was seen in March 2026. JSW Motors expected to launch the SUV in November 2026, following its brand debut during the 2026 Diwali Festive Season.
The Jaecoo J5 expected to be priced at around ₹17 – ₹20 lakh for the petrol version and ₹20 – ₹24 lakh for the strong-hybrid (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos Hybrid, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Tata Curvv, and New Tata Sierra.
